RE: Poll – Have You Fallen Off of Your Scissor Steps?

My wife took a nasty body slam type fall on our steps Presidents day weekend. They were wet and she had her hands full of snacks. We have 4 steps, one hit her head, one mid back, and one lower back just below her belt line. She hit the back of both arms on the sides and has big lumps now. Her lower back still hurts and she hopes the lumps go away on her arms. I had sprayed the steps with grip paint, but I am putting some really grippy grip tape on them for our Memorial day trip. Don't get in a hurry going down stairs. Travis..

RE: What size were the super-wide tires the 70s Fords had?

Yup, 33x12.50/16.5s are very close in height to your 235/85s. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a set of 16.5x9.75" wide steel wheels to put them on. We have a full set on a 93 Dodge W350 single wheel at work. Be sure to devise a tool to pop your hubcap before you take off on a trip. With the cap recessed so far into the wheel, it would be damn near impossible to get it off on the side of the road without mangling it. I don't have to tell you how flimsy our Dodge hubcaps are. RE: Route planning for the (2009) MEGA Haul

How steep the grade is isn't the problem, it's how long the grade is. There are a couple of really long ones in california and a couple in Nevada as well. Travis..

RE: Pacific S.W. camper rally?

Maybe someone ought to commit that they are going to Yosemite(or somewhere else)on a certain date and others chime in if they want to go. Sorry I haven't been on in a while since asking the original question. I think the statement above would be the best. If someone has a date and the ambition, pass it on and let everyone do as they like? Just firm things up when "for sure" people are identified. Travis..

RE: Palomino Bronco B1500

I like mine. I tow a car trailer behind mine without an extended hitch. The only issue is turning tight when it's bumpy or uneven. I have thought about taking the rear jacks off as that is what would contact the trailer, but haven't decided yet. How far you trailer will turn before contact will also depend if you trailer has a front bump board and how far your insert sticks out of the hitch. My ball is pretty much in line with the back wall of the camper. Travis..

RE: Pacific S.W. camper rally?

I could do Yosemite for a one nighter, but that is as far as I could go and be practical. Late March or April would be good. I liked the Scotts Flat lake trip last year, something similar would also be good. Hope Valley maybe? Travis..

RE: Pacific S.W. camper rally?

I would say when it gets a little nicer weather-wise, or not? I am kinda slim on vacation, saving it for summer trip. I would only really be able to do a one nighter myself. Myself and a couple of friends are going to Lawsons Landing on Presidents day weekend. After that I have nothing planned until Memorial day. Travis..

Pacific S.W. camper rally?

Hey all you Nor-Cal neighbors. Has there been any talk of a T/C rally this year? I searched and only found the thread about last year. Travis..

RE: 4.88 Rear

If you are just gonna haul a T/C and pull a reasonable trailer, 4.10 is as low as I'd go. A co-worker has an F350 with a 7.3PSD with 4.10s and he is only getting 14 or so empty and 10ish towing his 5er. If 3.73s are available, better yet I'd think. Travis..

RE: Are 44psi Passenger Tires OK for this light TC combo

I can't believe your stock tires would fail at 67% of max load. If that were the case, every diesel pick-up would have non-stop front tire trouble. I bet the only thing you notice is that they are softer riding than your other tires. Travis.. Why would a diesel pick up have problems on the front tires? All 6 of my wheels and tires are interchangeable. Because most diesel trucks seem to be up around 60% of their tires rated capacity on the front axle. It was just a quick example. With all of the liability involved with tire manufacture, I doubt you'll find a tire that won't live at 100% of it's rated capacity as long as it is undamaged and used within its speed limits. Travis..

RE: Slightly off topic

Check the salvage yards. I thought about doing that with mine. I've got 4 aluminum and 2 steel. Find a set of factory aluminum wheels, that way there is no doubt about weight rating or quality. Lots of those trucks came with them. Travis..

RE: Battery in LPG compartment?

How come a camper manufacturer made a camper without a batter compartment? What did they expect you to do with the battery? Appearantly they figure you'll run off of the truck battery which is what I did the 1st couple of outings. The problem is that if you stay more than one or two days your truck may not start. I want to have the camper "fully" self-contained, meaning battery power on-board. The big downside to having the battery in the bed is the lack of accessibility if I leave the camper on the truck between outings. I do remember someone on here with a Bronco put the battery under the sink. To do this I'd have to buy an AGM since it would basically be in the cupboard in the living space. If I went the AGM route, I could fit two under the front bench next to the water tank. I dunno, I'll have to give it more thought since I'm starting to ramble. Travis..

RE: Battery in LPG compartment?

How good is the ventalation? My fifth wheel trailer came factory with batteries and propane in the same compartment. I'd be interested in seeing a pic of how yours is set up. On the ventilation question, the compartment has a few screened holes in the bottom and the access door has 4 rows of louvers stamped into it. There's just no real good place to put a battery in this thing:( I'll have to wait til I get home to see Joes pic, work puter won't show it. Travis..

Battery in LPG compartment?

Hey guys, long time no talk. I have two 5 gal size propane tanks in my tank compartment. I had a thought, remove one tank and put my battery in there next to the remaining tank. Anyone think this is a bad idea? My Palomino Bronco does not have a battery compartment so this is what I thought of as a solution. I currently carry the battery in front of the left wheelwell in between the bed wall and camper. I'd like a more convenient place. Give it to me! Travis..

RE: Issues with bigger than stock tires

On my truck, a previous owner put LT285 tires on it. The truck should have had 245s on it stock. As soon as these tires wear out,(won't be long, I think within a year), I am going down to 245s or 265s max. These 285s rub when the wheel is turned all the way in either direction, and quite frankly they are loud going down the highway. I guess someone liked the appearance, but I don't care for the negatives such as reduced gearing, taller truck, etc. Being the tightwad I am though, I will wait until I can see the air under the tread.:B (not really, just so you nervous types out there know) I bet those REALLY kill your power. What gears are in your truck, 3.92s if you're lucky? You'll see a big power improvement with shorter tires. Travis..

RE: Issues with bigger than stock tires

I went from factory 245s to 265s & lost 1 mpg. Used to average 16.5-17 now 15.5-16.5mpg I have a 02 duramax CC swb Did you actually lose 1 mile per gallon? If you didn't recalibrate your speedo, I doubt you did. You WILL lose effective gearing though you may never really notice it depending on what you are towing and the fact that you've never driven the truck with the 245s. If you are happy with the way it works, I wouldn't worry about it. Travis..

RE: 01-02 Dodge CTD 6spd dually owners

Yeah, I have found one so far for sale but it's a ways from me. It looks good in pics and the price is in the ballpark, but it's a long way to go for a maybe. I have noticed one in the truck camper forum with 6 spd and 3.54s, but don't recall who has it. I think I'll just hold tight and see if one falls into my lap that's a bit closer. Still interested in anyone's thoughts on how hard it is to find the 3.54s though. Travis..

RE: 01-02 Dodge CTD 6spd dually owners

Did you guys even try to find different ratios when you bought them, or just took what was in them? I really don't want 4.10s because I take trips to Idaho and do alot of freeway travel. I don't like the idea of winding it up so tight to go 70mph. I really like the 3.54 gear in my current truck. Anyone else? Travis..
